Peneliti dari Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) berhasil mengembangkan Robot Jelajah Bawah Air (RJBA). Robot ini mampu beroperasi hingga kedalaman 50 meter.

“RJBA ini bisa disebut sebagai kapal selam mini tanpa awak. Robot ini diharapkan membantu berbagai observasi di bawah laut, terutama untuk mendapatkan gambaran tentang kondisi bawah laut selama 24 jam,” kata Prof. Dr. Ir. Indra Jaya, MSc, ketua tim peneliti penemu.

Indra Jaya mengakui, teknologi yang diciptakan tidak bisa dibandingkan dengan Remote Operating Vehicle (ROV) buatan luar negeri yang mampu menjelajahi lautan hingga ribuan meter. “RJBA ini hanya mampu di kedalaman 50 meter, sehingga lebih cocok untuk laut dangkal, seperti perairan Pulau Seribu yang pernah kami ujicobakan,” kata Dekan Fakultas Perikanan dan Ilmu Kelautan IPB itu.

Meski telah berhasil diujicobakan di Perairan Kepulauan Seribu, Indra Jaya mengaku masih belum puas. Ke depan, timnya akan mengembangkan RJBA itu agar bisa menjangkau kedalaman 200 meter. Selain itu, RJBA diarahkan menjadi Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) yang beroperasi di laut dalam. Model robot AUV memungkinkan penelitian di bawah laut tidak mengandalkan robot yang terhubung dengan kabel di atas permukaan laut.

Lebih Murah
RJBA buatan IPB itu lebih murah jika dibandingkan dengan buatan luar negeri. Bisa dimaklumi, bahan-bahan yang digunakan sebagian besar tersedia di dalam negeri. “Beberapa bahan bahkan sudah tersedia di laboratorium IPB di Darmaga dan di pasar-pasar,” kata Indra Jaya, doktor lulusan Department of Applied Mathematics, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York, Amerika Serikat itu.
